I studied Medicine at Southampton University. As a post-graduate, I trained in Psychiatry, including a course in individual psychodynamic psychotherapy, and worked as a psychiatrist for five years, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1992.

Sue Brotherton and I first met in the South of Spain, when I attended one of her workshops on Mediumship and Psychic Awareness. It was February 1998; a pivotal moment in my life.

Five years previously, when I gave up my career in psychiatry, I had moved to Spain. Since then, in a vague kind of way, I had been searching for something. I had just started writing, which had been a secret dream since childhood, but it was all new to me, and there was a lot to learn. In a sense I was waiting to find my next step. When I went to the workshop, I had no idea what to expect. I’d never spoken to Sue, and I’d never seen a medium working before. In fact I was way out of my comfort zone.

Right at the start, I volunteered to go up in front of the group, and she started saying what she sensed from my energy field and unconscious mind. In other words, she started telling me what I thought about myself.
