Bloodhound
History, nobility and keen determination flow through the veins of the great Bloodhound, the living descendant of St. Hubert's Hounds, raised by clerics in a monastery in the Ardennes region of France. Immensely gifted as a scenthound, the Bloodhound was bred to trail game that it could not see merely by following its scent. So keen is the scenting ability of the Bloodhound that experts conclude that its nose is over two million times as sensitive as that of a human. The breed's large size, fearlessness and trailing ability enable it to pursue large game, including deer, elk and bear; moreover, the Bloodhound is the foremost man-trailing dog in the world, utilised to track sheep thieves, poachers and escaped convicts. Although not ideal for every dog lover enamoured by the breed's abilities, the Bloodhound makes an affectionate, devoted companion for the family able to provide sufficient accommodations for this hundred-plus-pound dog. The Bloodhound's natural protective abilities and remarkable, wrinkly appearance continue to fascinate humankind today as have the breed's super-canine nose and determination for centuries.
