Bean Fate
June, 1922. When Jack Ross of the Saskatchewan Provincial Police arrives at his first posting down near the American border, he is given only one piece of advice: it's best not to look too closely. The village of Bienfait quickly proves challenging. Canadian politicians have created a suspicious loophole making booze exports legal during Prohibition, turning the dusty town into an unlikely way station for liquor headed south over the border.
What Jack doesn't expect in the prairie small town is this: drunken brawls, a hijacking, and meeting larger-than-life figures from an expanding liquor empire. And he definitely doesn't expect to be dealing with rough American rum runners and gangsters from the fledgling Chicago Mob or to fall dangerously in love.
When someone is shot dead in Bienfait, the outraged public demands justice from the government. Jack launches an investigation into the crime but soon finds his loyalties tested when he has more questions than answers.
A novel inspired by a real-life murder, Bean Fate is at once a window into Saskatchewan in the 1920s, a tale of a heartbreaking relationship, and thrilling historical fiction you won't soon forget.
