About the Author Rusty Farrell Rusty has drawn from a lifetime of experiences to define and refine his technique of surfing instruction. He has completed Levels 1 & 2 of the Professional Ski Instructors of America training. He has a background in psychology, physiology and yoga. This enriched background has shaped Rusty s unique style of teaching: by carefully observing how each individual student approaches the sport, utilizes their body and manipulates their surfboard (how they develop their turning power, their level of balance and flexibility), Rusty quickly begins to adapt his instruction techniques to that persons strengths and weaknesses. Rusty has taught surfing lessons for over 20 years at Tourmaline Surf Park near San Diego California. You can usually find him surfing there. And, if you paddle out into the line up, chances are you will meet someone who he has taught to surf.Dave Hill Dave grew up on the Gulf Coast where surfers pray for tropical storms and hurricanes. Shortly after discovering the consistent surf on the California coast, he met Rusty at Tourmaline Surf Park near San Diego, California. The two quickly became friends, and over the years have surfed together and continued their dialogue about surf instruction. That dialogue and Rustys consistent success with his students are what led to the creation of this book. Dave has a surgical practice in Kansas City, but manages to get back to California regularly to catch a few waves. If you surf at Tourmaline, it's not uncommon to see him exiting an airport cab only to be paddling out on a board 5 minutes later.
