8-Bit Microprocessor Programming: Student Workbook (Model EB-6810-40)
INTRODUCTION TO THE EXPERIMENTS It is a widely held belief that to learn by doing is to truly learn. You can read about and study a topic, for example aviation, but it is not until you've completed some actual flights that you know you can fly! This is true of so many things - including microprocessor programming. The importance of successfully completing the experiments contained in this workbook cannot be overemphasized. Take your time in performing (or even re-performing) these. They represent the equivalent of your first few "flights." This workbook contains the experiments associated with the main topics discussed in the textbook. The first two experiments, entitled Trainer Programming Fundamentals, and Microprocessor System Features are designed to provide an introduction to the fundamental concepts in Unit 1 (Microcomputer Basics) while acquainting you with the features and operation of the ET-3800 Microprocessor trainer. Experiments 3 and 4 on The Inherent, Immediate, and Direct Addressing Modes, and Combined Addressing Mode Programming, serve to reinforce the main topics presented in Unit 2 (Addressing Modes). The next three experiments, 5, 6, and 7, on The Condition Code Register, Program Branches, and Multiple Precision Operations each concentrate on these three main areas discussed in Unit 3 (Introduction to Programming). Experiments 8 and 9 on Other Arithmetic Operations, and The Extended and Indexed Addressing Modes, complement the material in Unit 4 (Microprocessor Architecture and Instruction Set). The last three experiments are individually devoted to each of the last three text @its (5, 6, and 7). These discuss the important topics of Stack Operations (5), Ä1b1e Accumulator and Subroutine Instructions (6), and Input/Output Operations (7). They are supported respectively by experiment 10 on Stack Operations, 11 on Double Accumulator and Subroutine Instructions, and experiment 12 on Input/Output Operations.
