8-Bit Microprocessor Interfacing and Applications (Model EB-6820)
INTRODUCTION In this unit, you will begin your learning journey through this comprehensive course. The emphasis in the first section of this unit will be on teaching you those concepts that are fundamental to all interfacing tasks. These concepts include address decoding, 3-state buffering, latching, and timing. Make sure that you understand the ideas presented here, because they will provide a foundation for the rest of the course. In the second section of this unit you will learn about the features of the 68HC11. The 68HC11 is employed in the ET W-3800 Trainer. You will find that this is a very flexible microprocessor chip. In fact, the 68HC11 is referred to as a single-chip microcomputer because it includes all the necessary internal memory and I/O features to act as a stand-alone microcomputer. Finally, the last two sections of this unit will show you how to interface simple input and output devices, such as switches and displays, to the MP U. Again, the simple ideas presented here will be fundamental to the more advanced concepts presented later in the course. Now, let's begin our journey.
